Our Story

At Yanvalou Designs, we believe that our business is a catalyst for good and that you are more than just customers—you are agents of change. By purchasing one of our unique pieces, you are providing royalties to artists, helping build supply chain in Haiti, and supporting the communities we are a part of—the Haitian fashion industry, the arts and artisanal communities.

I first went to Haiti to help in earthquake reconstruction. Like most who are lucky enough to get to know Haiti, I fell in love with the spirit of her people, the majesty of her cool mountains, the tranquility of her sun-drenched beaches, and the incredible tapestry of her culture. Yanvalou Designs is a brand dedicated to celebrating the beauty of Haiti.

Our Yanvalou Beach collection brings you designer bikinis, one-pieces, coverups, scarves and pareos featuring incredible original art from Haitian master Frantz Zephirin as well as from up-and-coming artists Ras Kimy & Pizaro.

Frantz’s works are known the world over for their deep mysticism and have been featured on the covers of the New Yorker and Smithsonian magazines. The name Yanvalou (yon-va-LOO) is from Frantz’s Yanvalou Gods print featured in the collection. Yanvalou is a traditional Haitian rhythm and dance.

Kimy & Piz’s works are lively and bright and typically depict abstract naturalist themes and traditional Haitian market scenes. They regularly exhibit in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad & Tobago and are making strides in the Haitian and Caribbean art scene.
